Terms of use
These terms are a translation of the French original: Conditions d'utilisation. If the two versions differ, the French version prevails.
1. Purpose and acceptance
These terms govern the use of the Rusukh app (Android and iOS) and of the website apprusukh.com, published by NEURO LINE PERFORMANCE - FZCO, a free zone company (IFZA, licence no. 41533), Building A1, IFZA Business Park, Dubai Digital Park, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai, United Arab Emirates ("we", "the publisher"), reachable at contact@neuroline-airblast.com.
By installing or using Rusukh, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app. The terms of the app store through which you installed Rusukh (Google Play or App Store) apply in addition, notably for payment.
2. The service
Rusukh is an app for learning classical Arabic (fuṣḥā) with a focus on understanding the Quran, in French. It offers, among other things: a vocabulary course ordered by frequency, learnt through exercises and then reviewed by spaced repetition; a gauge measuring the share of the Quran your words cover; sentences, roots and patterns; an Arabic voice for every word and sentence; a story to read every hundred words; dialogues; checks; a "Learn to read" section (letters and signs); reading the Quran with translation, tafsir, recitations and word by word; a Quran memorisation module ("My hifz"); authenticated hadiths and sayings of the Companions; profiles, friends, a leaderboard and challenges.
The app's content (words, sentences, stories, dialogues) is bundled in the app; voices, recitations and some commentaries are downloaded on first use. The voice bank weighs about 630 MB: we recommend Wi-Fi, and we cannot be held liable for mobile data charges.
Rusukh is an educational tool. It replaces neither a teacher, nor a scholar, nor reading the Quran with a master. We do everything we can for the content to be accurate (see section 7), but an error remains possible: report it to us and we will correct it.
3. Account and profiles
- The app can be used without an account. An account (Google, Apple or e-mail) is used to save your progress online, find it on another device and use the social features.
- You must be 13 or older to create an account. The app is not directed at children under 13.
- An account can hold up to five profiles, so that several people in a household each learn at their own pace. The account remains the responsibility of its holder, including for what the profiles do.
- You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for the accuracy of the information you provide. Let us know of any unauthorised use.
- A profile's name and emblem are visible to your friends and on the leaderboard: choose a name that is neither offensive, nor misleading, nor unlawful.
4. What is free
Without a subscription, now and forever:
- the first 295 words of the course, with their voices, sentences, roots, and the stories, dialogues and checks that go with them (they cover half of the words of the Quran, counted by occurrences);
- the Quran section: reading (verse by verse or by page), translation, tafsir, recitations, word by word, bookmark, and My hifz;
- reviewing all the words you have learnt, whether your subscription is active or not;
- Learn to read (letters and signs);
- challenges between friends, the leaderboard and profiles.
The text of the Quran and its companions are content whose free availability we promised to those who entrusted it to us: they will never be placed behind the subscription.
5. The subscription
5.1 What it opens
Beyond the 295 words learnt in the app, learning new words (and everything that depends on them: the following stories, dialogues, checks and path stages, as well as adding to the course a word tapped in the Quran) requires an active subscription, or access gifted by the publisher. Only words learnt in lessons count towards the quota; words ticked as already known (placement test, path tick) do not.
5.2 Price and renewal
- The subscription costs 11 € per month (renewed every month) or 110 € per year (renewed every year, two months free), taxes included, in France. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the current period remains due and accessible until it ends. The exact price in your country and currency is the one shown by Google Play or the App Store at the time of purchase; it may vary with local taxes and exchange rates.
- It renews automatically every month, at the same price, until you cancel it. Payment is taken by the store from the payment method registered in your Google or Apple account.
- If the price changes, the store informs you in advance and, under its rules, asks you to accept the new price before it applies.
- We receive no banking data. Payment, invoice and receipt are issued by Google or Apple.
5.3 Cancellation
You can cancel at any time, with no commitment: in the app, Settings, "My access", "Manage", or directly in the subscriptions of your Google Play account (play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions) or Apple account (apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the month already paid: you keep full access until then, after which the app returns to free mode, without taking back anything you have learnt. Uninstalling the app or deleting your Rusukh account does not cancel the subscription: that must be done in the store.
5.4 Refunds and right of withdrawal
As payments are processed by Google Play and the App Store, refund requests follow their rules and are made to them (Google: in the order history or through Google Play help; Apple: at reportaproblem.apple.com). If you live in the European Union, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal for a service bought at a distance; by starting the subscription, you ask for the service to begin immediately and acknowledge that, if you withdraw, the price may be reduced in proportion to the period already elapsed, under the store's terms. Nothing in these terms reduces the rights that the law of your country of residence guarantees you as a consumer.
5.5 Gifted access
The publisher may grant full access to certain people, by their e-mail address, free of charge and without consideration. Gifted access may be withdrawn at any time; the person then returns to free mode without losing anything they have learnt.
5.6 Changing device
The subscription is tied to your Google Play or Apple account. On a new device signed in to the same store account, "I already have a subscription" on the offer screen restores it. A subscription taken on Android does not transfer to iPhone, and vice versa: this is a rule of the stores.
6. Our commitments
- Nothing earned is taken back. Words learnt, day streak, rank, anchored words, Quran gauge: they remain yours, whether you pay or not.
- Reviewing stays free. Whoever stops paying keeps reviewing all their words, indefinitely.
- The Quran stays free. Reading, translation, tafsir, recitations, word by word and My hifz.
- No advertising, no data sold.
- Your data belongs to you: a complete file can be downloaded at any time from Settings, and your account can be deleted in full (see the deletion page).
7. Religious content and sources
Rusukh displays sacred texts and texts by scholars. We do not alter them and we state their sources:
- Arabic text of the Quran: Tanzil Quran Text (Uthmani), © Tanzil Project, published under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 licence. The text is reproduced without modification, with its copyright notice, as the licence requires. It was verified character by character against two other reference editions.
- French translation: Rachid Maach, published by QuranEnc.com (Noor International Center), reproduced under its republication terms.
- Tafsir: al-Mukhtasar fi al-tafsir (Tafsir Center, in French and Arabic, via QuranEnc.com) and the tafsir of Ibn Kathir in Arabic (public domain), the latter downloaded at your request.
- Recitations: provided by the Quran Foundation, under its developer terms, and downloaded at your request.
- Hadiths and sayings of the Companions: the Forty Hadiths of Imam al-Nawawi, the Three Fundamental Principles (Usul al-thalatha) and athar whose authenticity was checked in the reference works. No text is written from memory.
- Tajwid colours: computed by our own rules from the text, they are a reading aid, not an authority; a reading teacher always prevails.
- Voices: the voices of the words and sentences are synthetic voices; never the Quran itself, which is only offered in human recitations.
Rusukh is a language-learning tool, not a religious authority. The grammar and vocabulary explanations are our own and may contain errors: we correct them as soon as they are reported to us.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- bypass the paywall, access rules or protections of the app, nor manipulate your progress, your leaderboard position or the challenges by technical means;
- extract, copy or redistribute the app's content (words, sentences, stories, dialogues, voices, questions) beyond personal use, nor reuse it to train an automated system;
- use the social features to harass, insult, deceive or pester anyone, nor impersonate another person;
- create several accounts to distort the leaderboard or multiply free words;
- use the app in a manner contrary to the law or to the stores' terms.
In case of a serious or repeated breach, we may suspend or close the account, after informing you where possible. Amounts already paid to the store remain subject to the store's rules.
9. Intellectual property
The app, its code, its course, its exercises, sentences, stories, dialogues, explanations, voices, design and brand belong to the publisher or its licensors, and are protected by copyright and trademark law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use the app in accordance with these terms. The third-party texts cited in section 7 remain subject to their own licences, including the CC BY 3.0 licence of the Tanzil text. The typefaces used (Inter, Scheherazade New) are under the SIL Open Font License.
What you create in the app (profile name and emblem) remains yours; you allow us to display it to your friends, on the leaderboard and in challenges, for as long as you use the service.
10. Friends, leaderboard and challenges
- A friendship is formed by request and acceptance; either party can remove a friend at any time.
- The leaderboard compares profiles of the same rank, by number of solid words. It shows the profile name and emblem, never the e-mail address.
- Challenges are played live; the questions come from the app's content. Participants' connections may affect the game: we do not guarantee a result.
- Behaviour contrary to section 8 may lead to the removal of social features or the closure of the account.
11. Changes, interruptions, end of service
We improve Rusukh continuously: features may be added, modified or removed, and content corrected or reordered. We strive to keep the service available, but interruptions (maintenance, hosting outage, update) are possible; the app then works offline for everything already on the device. Should we ever stop the service, we would inform you at least three months in advance, letting you retrieve your data, and ongoing subscriptions would be cancelled without further charge.
12. Liability and warranties
Rusukh is provided with the care one may expect from a reasonable publisher, but "as is" and without a guarantee that you will reach a given level: learning a language depends first on your regularity. Within the limits permitted by law, our liability is limited to direct and foreseeable damage, and cannot exceed the amounts you paid us over the last twelve months. We are not liable for third-party services (stores, hosting providers, recitation providers), for your carrier's data charges, nor for use contrary to these terms.
These limits do not apply to damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, nor to what the law forbids limiting. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you benefit from the legal guarantee of conformity for digital content and services and from the other mandatory rights of your country of residence; nothing in these terms reduces them.
13. Personal data
How we handle your data is described in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms. Account deletion is explained on the page Delete my account.
14. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of the United Arab Emirates. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you keep the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence, and you may bring a dispute before the courts of that country. You may also use the European online dispute resolution platform (ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr) or a consumer mediator.
Before any action, write to us: we undertake to seek an amicable solution within one month.
15. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms, for example for a new feature or a change in the law. The date and version at the top of the page then change. For a change that reduces your rights or increases your obligations, we will inform you in the app or by e-mail at least 30 days before it takes effect; if you refuse it, you may stop using the service and cancel your subscription before that date. Continuing to use Rusukh after that date constitutes acceptance.
